The key to the shop’s longevity is its adherence to tradition. All of the sweets are made the old fashioned way, using time honored techniques that have been passed down over the decades. Visitors to the store will find salt water taffy pulled on a hypnotic machine, fudge made in copper kettles, and mouthwatering candy apples, chocolates, and cashew brittle. The Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen has two convenient locations on the Parkway.

2. The Donut Friar

Who says you can’t have dessert for breakfast? Open at 5 a.m. each morning, the Donut Friar in downtown Gatlinburg is the perfect place to start your day with something sweet. This hugely popular shop serves mouthwatering donuts, pastries, and cinnamon bread, along with gourmet coffee. The freshly prepared treats at the Donut Friar will melt in your mouth! Be sure to bring cash when you visit the Friar because the shop does not accept credit cards.

3. Cakes by Bakin’ Bishop

Located on Wears Valley Road, Cakes by Bakin’ Bishop is a little off the beaten path, but it is definitely worth the drive! Owned and operated by Shannon Bishop (a.k.a the Bakin’ Bishop), this bakery is famous for its customizable cupcakes. Guests get to pick the flavor of cake, the type of icing, and the topping. In addition to the spectacular cupcakes, Bakin’ Bishop offers incredible cinnamon rolls, cookies, whoopie cushions, brownies, and other treats.

4. Curl de la Creme

Curl de la Creme is unlike any other ice cream shop you’ve ever seen! Instead of serving scoops of ice cream, this one-of-a-kind shop serves “rolled ice cream”. To create this unique dessert, the team members at Curl de la Creme pour liquid cream on a plate that is kept at 20 degrees below freezing and scrape the congealed ice cream into tiny little rolls. The sundaes at Curl de la Creme can be customized with a variety of mix-ins and toppings, including Oreos, Nutella, peanut butter, pretzels, York Peppermint Patties, and brownie crumbles.
